we are Andrea & Mike
We do what we do because we love it. That's it. There's no deeper reason for us to travel.
We don't like to overdramatize things or make them sound more amazing than they are; the world is beautiful enough as it is. We love to travel, see new places, experience nature and culture firsthand.
This is how it all started:
When we went on our first date in 2008 we discovered pretty quickly that we shared the same dream of traveling along the Panamericana from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego.
In short, we shipped our small green vehicle from Europe to Boston, drove across the States, then north to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. From there we headed all the way south to Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, and back up north more or less along the Atlantic coast to reach Venezuela.
In the south of Venezuela, a lady smashed into us with her car, our Defender was totaled, the trip was over, time to go back to Switzerland.
In three years we traveled through North, Central, and South America. We had a blast!
Once we got back to Switzerland, we immediately started planning our next trip and vehicle. Having seen the Dakar Trucks in Argentina, a seed was planted in Mike's mind and had grown into a concrete plan.
The project 4xtremes was born. Over the next years, we pursued our dream to visit the four most extreme places on the planet. Putting everything we had learned on our previous adventure to use and partnering up with strong brands, made it possible.
The learning curve in the 11-month adventure was extremely steep and we found out what we and our truck are capable of.
Since 2018 we have been living full-time in our truck.
After the 4xtremes project, the name "4xtremes" stuck and we started the World Tour.
The Pandemic messed up our travel plans and we had to stay extremely flexible to continue to travel. We're not complaining. Again we learned new things and changed our way of overlanding. First of all, we slowed down a lot. We started enjoying the outdoors more, went on more extensive hikes, we got two bikes and a kayak to go even further.
After traveling for more than three years through Europe, we shipped our truck to South America and are currently getting to know this continent even better.

In loving memory of our dear Aimée
For over 14 years, she was the sweetest and most loyal companion we could have ever wished for.
We have shared uncountable adventures around the globe, happy moments, and lots and lots of love.
We are thankful for every moment that we shared with her, the laughter, the tears, the fears, every cuddle, every walk with her, and every time she awaited us at the door when we would come home.
While we miss her dearly, we will carry her in our hearts for the rest of our lives.
